The apprenticeship programs will start on 4 May 2022 at Korkeakoski and Seikku sawmills. The apprenticeship program, which lasts for approximately three years, is partnered with the Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia, and the aim is to complete a vocational degree in the sawmill industry.
Korkeakoski develops its own expertise, Seikku also searches for new talents
At the Seikku sawmill, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, the apprentice program will be started by 8 of the sawmill's own employees. In addition, it is possible to apply to join the apprenticeship group by 20 March 2022.
At the Korkeakoski sawmill, 10 sawmill workers participate in the apprenticeship program, who want to develop their skills and get a degree in addition to work. A familiar group of employees can support each other in their studies and together it is easier to maintain motivation and an encouraging atmosphere.

In the apprenticeship model offered by UPM Timber, the student gets to work with various process tasks in sawmill production, and the training is suitable especially for those who learn best by doing. We offer a versatile field of work and good opportunities for professional development in a great group of employees.
In addition to on-the-job learning, three years of paid training includes theory days preparing for the profession. The theoretical knowledge training is carried out by UPM's own experts and external professionals. Theoretical studies are also arranged cross-sections between sawmills, allowing good practices to be shared between sawmills.
