The nearly €10 million investment in the Korkeakoski sawmill is progressing steadily. The modernization project will replace the split saw, automation systems and other equipment in the second phase of the sawing process. The upgrade will improve raw material productivity and increase saw line speed.
“Improved material utilization ratio and reduced energy consumption will increase the overall efficiency of the sawmill,” says Korkeakoski Sawmill Director Janne Klaavuniemi.
The old equipment at the Korkeakoski sawmill was dismantled by the end of April, and the new split saw will be installed in May.
“The start-up of the sawmill will begin in June, and our goal is to normalize production during the second half of 2025. We’ve been able to deliver orders through UPM’s other sawmills without interruption. After the shutdown, we’ll once again be ready to efficiently produce even higher-quality sawn timber for our customers,” says Klaavuniemi.
